Indian Railways is raising an all-women patrol squad that will guard running trains, ensure women’s safety at busy stations and assist women and children on railway premises, seeking to triple the number of female personnel in the Railway Protection Force (RPF).
Indian Railways plans to add 4,500 more women to the RPF’s strength by next year, almost half the total number of new hires.
At the level of sub-inspector, RPF has 1,111 vacancies, 300 of which will reserved for women, said Ved Prakash, spokesperson for Railways.At the constable level, it has advertised for 7,989 vacancies ,4,200 of which will be reserved for women, he added.
Women make up less than 5% of the RPF’s staff strength. Once the hiring process is completed, the number of women personnel will exceed 7,000, up from 2,600 now.
“Once the selection process is done, the women will be subjected to nine months’ rigorous training. They will be trained for escort duty in trains and most of them will be posted in the ladies’ coaches of suburban trains in Delhi, Mumbai and Kolkata. The presence of women in uniform inside coaches will make women travellers feel safe,” said an RPF spokesperson.
“Some of the women personnel who are deployed on active duty have been doing commendable work and received various awards also. They have helped women in distress. Railways is also used by human traffickers and these personnel will be responsible for identifying vulnerable children and women,” the RPF spokesperson added.
According to data tabled in Parliament last year, 553 cases of crime against women passengers such as molestation and harassment were registered in 2015, increasing to 606 in 2016.
“To deal with women in distress, sensitive staff needs to be posted. And since most of the trafficking victims are women, a woman constable will give them more confidence in narrating the trauma. The presence of women staff will give the women passengers a sense of safety,” said Rishi Kant of Shakti Vahini, an NGO that works with the Railways to curb crimes against women.

Prices of food and drinks sold in trains by Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) have been slashed by Rs 3 to Rs 10 with the Centre reducing GST on the items from 18 per cent to five per cent.Catering charges in premium trains also will see a cut by Rs 40 to Rs 60 per ticket depending on the class of travel from April 16.According to the revised rates of food items sold by IRCTC authorised vendors in Express and superfast trains which came into effect from Monday, price of medu vada has come down to Rs 19 as against the earlier Rs 22.
The price of egg biriyani has been slashed to Rs 61 from Rs 69. Cost of chicken biriyani has reduced to Rs 89 as against the earlier Rs 100. Price of masal dosa has come down to Rs 18 from Rs 21.
Similarly, prices of variety rice items, including tamarind rice, lemon rice, curd rice, veg noodles, sambar rice, tomato/vegetable soup, samosa, vegetable cutlet, masala vada, medu vada and masal dosa also have come down by Rs 2 to Rs 4 per unit.
The change would also reduce the ticket fares in premium trains which are so far collected at 18 per cent GST on catering charges. “Catering charges and GST are collected along with ticket fare in premium trains. Since GST on catering charges has been reduced to five per cent, the ticket fare may get reduced by Rs20 to Rs60 a ticket depending upon the class of travel and distance. It will be implemented from April 16, “ railway board order stated.The food items and beverages sold in mobile units (trains) and static units (food stalls in station) of IRCTC suffered with 18 per cent GST since July 2017. The GST led to increase in prices by `five to Rs25 on all food items.

भारतीय रेल में स्मार्ट कोच का युग जल्द शुरू होने जा रहा है। कपूरथला, पंजाब स्थित रेल कोच फैक्टरी (आरसीएफ) ने देश के पहले स्मार्ट कोच का निर्माण शुरू कर दिया है। इसमें एशो-आराम की वे सभी सुविधाएं मुहैया होंगी, जो अमूमन हवाई जहाज और फाइव स्टार होटलों में हुआ करती हैं।
साढ़े तीन करोड़ रुपए की लागत से बनने जा रहा पहला कोच जून तक तैयार हो जाएगा। स्मार्ट कोच में सभी अत्याधुनिक सुविधाएं होंगी। कॉल बेल, वाई-फाई, एलईडी लाइट्स, आरामदायक सीट, सेंटर टेबल, मोबाइल व लैपटॉप चार्जिंग के अलावा खिड़कियों पर कंप्यूटराइज्ड ऑटोमैटिक पर्दे लगे होंगे, जिन्हें रिमोट के जरिए उतारा-चढ़ाया जा सकेगा। कोच के बाहर इलेक्ट्रानिक रिजर्वेशन चार्ट लगेगा। ऑटोमैटिक कंपैक्ट अरेंजमेंट वाले डस्टबिन लगेंगे।
ट्रेन कितनी देर में पहुंचेगी, कितनी लेट चल रही है और कौन सा स्टेशन कितनी देर में आएगा, आदि जानकारी यात्री कोच में लगी स्क्रीन पर देख सकेंगे। कोच में हाई स्पीड वाई-फाई इंटरनेट की सुविधा मिलेगी और हर कोच में लगे सीसीटीवी कैमरे कोच की निगरानी करेंगे। पढ़ने आदि के लिए सीटों पर एलईडी (लाइट इमिटिंग डायोड) बल्ब की व्यवस्था भी होगी। घंटी बजाने पर आएगा अटेंडेंट कॉल बेल के जरिए आप अपनी सीट पर अटेंडेंट (सहायक कर्मी) को बुला सकते हैं।
आरसीएफ कपूरथला के महाप्रबंधक सत्य प्रकाश त्रिवेदी ने बताया कि स्मार्ट कोच में प्रत्येक सीट के पीछे एलईडी स्क्रीन नहीं लगेगी, बल्कि इंटरनेट के जरिए यात्रियों के स्मार्ट फोन को ही कोच के इंटरटेनमेंट सिस्टम से जोड़ दिया जाएगा। यात्री अपनी मर्जी के मुताबिक करीब 60 तरह के कार्यक्रम देख सकेंगे।
साउंड व डस्टप्रूफ होगा कोच
यह कोच साउंड व डस्टप्रूफहोगा। यानी इसमें न तो बाहर का शोर-शराबा सुनाई देगा और ना ही धूल अंदर आ सकेगी। कोच के दरवाजे भी ऑटोमैटिक होंगे। ट्रेन के चलते ही दरवाजे खुद-ब-खुद बंद हो जाएंगे। शौचालय व बाहरी दरवाजों वाली जगह से कोच के सीटों वाले हिस्से में जाने के लिए भी दोनों तरफ सेंसर युक्त ऑटोमैटिक दरवाजे होंगे। दरवाजे के सामने पहुंचने पर यह अपने आप खुल जाएगा।
ऑटोमैटिक कंपैक्ट अरेंजमेंट डस्टबिन
इस कोच में ऑटोमैटिक कंपैक्ट अरेंजमेंट डस्टबिन लगेंगे, जिनकी क्षमता सामान्य से 10 गुना बढ़ जाएगी। यह डस्टबिन कचरे को खुद-ब-खुद क्रश कर (कुचल) देगा।
वैक्यूम टॉयलेट होंगे
हवाई जहाज की तरह इस कोच में वैक्यूम टॉयलेट होंगे। इसमें सेंसर युक्त आधुनिक नल, हैंड ड्रायर व सोप डिस्पेंसर लगा होगा। सेंसर से ही यह नल चलेगा और बंद होगा। वैक्यूम टॉयलेट से पानी की खपत लगभग दस फीसद रह जाएगी। स्मार्ट कोच में लगाए जाने वाले टैंक में पानी का स्तर बताने के लिए एक गेज भी लगाया जाएगा, जिससे पता रहेगा कि डिब्बे की टंकी में कितना पानी बचा है।
घंटी बजाने पर आएगा अटेंडेंट
कॉल बेल के जरिये आप अपनी सीट पर अटेंडेंट (सहायक कर्मी) को बुला सकते हैं। घंटी बजाने पर पैंट्री कार में पता चल जाएगा कि कॉल किस सीट से आई है। सहायक आपकी सेवा में पहुंच जाएगा।

देश में अमन शांति रहे, कैसे देश में अच्छा चर्चा का वातावरण बने, अच्छे आइडियाज़ आते हैं उस आईडियाज़ को हम अपना, सरकार में मोदी जी ने कभी ऐसा नहीं देखा कि यह आईडिया कोई और पार्टी ने दिया, बीजेपी का है किसी और का है | मोदी जी ने कभी ऐसा नहीं देखा कि क्योंकि कोई और पार्टी ने कोई स्कीम बनाई तो उसको रद्दी में डाल दो, जो अच्छी चीज़ है, करो, जो ठीक नहीं है, बंद करो | और इस प्रकार से देश में जो तेज़ गति से आज एक सेल्फ-कॉन्फिडेंस आया है |
आप याद करो, कभी भारत का अंतर्राष्ट्रीय स्तर पर इतनी साख बनी है, कभी सोचकर याद करो हम सबके जीवन में, हममें से कुछ लोग आप तो सब बहुत युवा हैं, मेरी उम्र आज 54 साल हो गयी है, मुझे याद नहीं है भारत की साख कभी इतनी मज़बूत बनी होगी जब आज माननीय प्रधानमंत्री के नेतृत्व में भारत की साख बनी है | विश्व की सबसे तेज़ गति से बढ़ने वाला बड़ा देश, कंटीन्यूअसली इतने सालों से भारत का होना हम सबके लिए कितनी गर्व की बात है |
और समस्याएं, 70 वर्ष की समस्याएं कोई ओवरनाईट तो नहीं सोल्व हो सकती हैं, हम सबको इच्छा होती है यह भी हो जाये, वह भी हो जाये, यह सुधर जाये, यहाँ पर और अच्छा काम हो जाये, हम सबकी इच्छा है | पर थोड़ा धैर्य रखना पड़ेगा, थोड़ी हम सबको मिलकर इसमें सह्भाग्य देना पड़ेगा, करना पड़ेगा, जब हम सबकी ताकत और हम सब सिर्फ मैं भाजपा के कार्यकर्ता नहीं बोल रहा हूँ, जब पूरी जनता की ताकत यह तय कर ले कि हमको भारत को भ्रष्टाचार-मुक्त बनाना है, हमको भारत को ईमानदार रास्ते पर लेकर जाना है, हमको भारत के हर गरीब के जीवन में अच्छा भविष्य देना है, तब दुनिया की कोई ताकत भारत के सामने खड़ी नहीं हो पायेगी, इतना मैं आपको विश्वास दिलाता हूँ |
और अब जो 14 तारीख से जो कार्यक्रम लिया है जिसमें देश भर के करीब-करीब 21,000 गावों में हमारे कार्यकर्ता, हम सब मिलकर नेता, कार्यकर्ता – वास्तव में यही हम सबकी गर्व की बात है कि इस पार्टी में हर नेता भी कार्यकर्ता पहले है | आपको अटल जी का वाक्य याद है ना? ‘मेरा पद चला जाये, मुझे प्रधानमंत्री से कोई हटा दे, कुछ कर दे, लेकिन मेरा जो कार्यकर्ता का पद है वह कभी कोई मेरे से छीन नहीं सकता है’! याद है अटल जी ने 1996 में यह बोला था?
‘मेरा यह कार्यकर्ता का जो पद है इसको दुनिया की कोई ताकत हाथ नहीं लगा सकती है,’ और वास्तव में यही भारतीय जनता पार्टी की मूल हम सबकी सोच, हम सबकी ताकत है और हम सब पर ज़िम्मेदारी बनती है कि जो अच्छे काम हो रहे हैं उसको जनता तक लेकर जायें | कोई गलत काम किधर हो रहा है तो हम तक पहुंचे उसको रोकने के लिए, रेलवे में हो कोई और डिपार्टमेंट में हो, राज्य सरकार में हो, केंद्र सरकार में हो | तो हमारी ताकत तो आप सब हैं, कोई मंत्री, कोई प्रधानमंत्री भाजपा के कार्यकर्ता के बगैर कुछ नहीं कर पायेगा, यही हमारी पार्टी की ताकत है जो आज भाजपा के कार्यकर्ता दिन और रात देश की सेवा में लगे रहते हैं |
और मैं आप सबको बधाई दूंगा इतने शॉर्ट नोटिस में और खासतौर पर हमारी बहनों ने जो धैर्य रखा कि सुबह से हिले नहीं कोई, बाकी इधर-उधर सब थोड़ा बहुत भी कोई गया हो, महिला हमारी कोई इधर से उधर नहीं हुई | तो एक आप सबको विशेष धन्यवाद, विशेष आप सबकी तारीफ के साथ सभी कार्यकर्ताओं को धन्यवाद देते हुए मैं आप सबसे विदा लेता हूँ |
