Currently the longest serving Commerce and Industry Minister of India, Piyush Goyal has in the past served as the Leader of the House in Rajya Sabha and helmed the Ministry of Consumer Affairs and Food & Public Distribution, Textiles, Railways, Finance, Corporate Affairs, Coal, Power, New & Renewable Energy, and Mines. After serving as a Rajya Sabha member for 14 years (since 2010), he won the Lok Sabha election from North Mumbai constituency in 2024, with the highest vote margin in the State of Maharashtra.
During his 35-year-long political career, he has held several important positions at different levels in the world’s largest political party, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), and is in its National Executive. He has also been the National Treasurer of the Party.
He has had a brilliant academic record – an all-India rank two in Chartered Accountancy examination, and also second-rank as Law Graduate from Mumbai University. He has been a well-known investment banker before becoming a Union Minister in 2014. His father, Late Vedprakash Goyal was Union Minister of Shipping, and the National Treasurer of the BJP for overtwo decades. His mother Chandrakanta Goyal was elected thrice to the Maharashtra egislative Assembly rom Mumbai. He is married to Seema, an active social worker, and has two children – Dhruv and Radhika.
